Two young men, aged 19 and 20, have been found deceased on Yr Wyddfa, commonly known as Snowdon, after being reported missing. The tragic discovery followed a search effort initiated when concerns were raised about their safety earlier in the week.
Rescue operations involved both mountain rescuers and HM Coastguard teams, who were mobilized to assist with the search. North Wales Police confirmed that the bodies were located on Thursday. The men have been formally identified, their families notified, and the coroner has been informed. Authorities have requested that the privacy of the families involved be respected during this difficult period.
Jurgen Dissmann, chairman of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He stated, “I would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the two men who have tragically lost their lives.” Dissmann also described the effort, noting that the team responded to the tasking by North Wales Police, launching an extensive, multi-agency operation in harsh winter conditions.
Volunteers faced challenging terrain over snow and ice, conducting long and demanding searches through the night despite adverse weather. “Despite the determined and sustained commitment of everyone involved, we are deeply saddened that, despite all efforts, the outcome was not what we had hoped for,” Dissmann said.
