Skier dies in hospital after Nevis range fall rescue

A male skier succumbed to his injuries in hospital after a fall on the Nevis Range in the Scottish Highlands. The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, around 2 pm, on Aonach Mór, close to Fort William. While the individual’s identity has not been disclosed, Police Scotland confirmed his death took place the following day.

Authorities have indicated there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, with a spokesperson stating, “There are no suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.” This tragic event was part of a series of rescue operations that happened on and near Ben Nevis on the same day.

In total, six people were rescued across four separate incidents, two of which involved avalanches. The three rescues that started on Tuesday evening and continued into early Wednesday took place in difficult conditions, including deep snow and strong winds. The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team played a crucial role during these operations.

Among the rescues, a walker unable to make his way down Ben Nevis received assistance, and two climbers stranded on Aonach Mór were aided by a coastguard helicopter. Additionally, nine volunteers from Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team helped two climbers who were stuck on Ben Nevis’ Tower Ridge.
