Man charged with raping unconscious wife with other men for years

A man has been formally charged with drugging and sexually abusing his unconscious wife, alongside several other men. The accused, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, faces a total of 48 charges. These include conspiracy to rape, sexual assault by penetration, and conspiracy to administer a substance with the intent to commit a sexual offence.

The allegations date back to the early 2000s and involve a total of 13 men, aged between 28 and 73. During a hearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, seven of the defendants—including the husband, who is in his 60s and from Stockport, Greater Manchester—entered pleas of not guilty on all charges.

Family members of the victim were present in the public gallery during the court proceedings, observing the case unfold. Meanwhile, five of the other men on trial were not required to enter pleas at this stage. Among the defendants, one man admitted guilt to several serious charges including conspiracy to commit rape, conspiracy to administer a substance with intent, conspiracy to commit sexual assault by penetration, and the act of sexual assault by penetration itself.

The case is set to continue with a further hearing scheduled for March. The trial is planned to start on 1 September, with an anticipated length of approximately 12 weeks
