Ross Kemp is preparing to reprise his well-known role as Grant Mitchell in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, the broadcaster has confirmed. The actor, who is 61 years old, will be returning for a brief period, following a short appearance last year during the show’s 40th anniversary celebrations in Walford.
Kemp expressed his enthusiasm about stepping back into the character, saying, “I’m truly delighted to be stepping back into Grant Mitchell’s shoes and returning to EastEnders later this year.” He also described it as an “honour” to be involved in two major storylines that the show has planned.
Ben Wadey, the executive producer, shared the excitement of the production team, stating that they are “absolutely thrilled” to have Kemp back in the “legendary role of Grant.” Wadey highlighted the importance of the Mitchell family to the series, noting, “The Mitchells remain one of EastEnders’ defining dynasties, and we can’t wait to see them reunited again. As always when Grant is around, drama inevitably follows him…”.
One of the key story arcs Kemp will be part of involves dementia, a subject that holds “deep personal meaning” for him due to his own family experiences. Kemp originally gained fame through his portrayal of Grant Mitchell in the 1990s. After establishing himself in other acting roles and presenting documentary series about gangs, he returned to EastEnders a few times between 2005 and 2006 and then again for guest appearances in 2016. A show spokesperson revealed that Kemp’s character will come back to Walford after being called by his estranged son Mark. This reunion will mark their first meeting since Mark discovered the truth about his parentage. The spokesperson also hinted that viewers should anticipate “explosive drama,” while maintaining that the full details of Grant’s return are being kept confidential
