A yellow warning has been issued for Scotland due to expected snow and ice overnight from Thursday into Friday. By Friday morning, some lower-lying roads could see a few centimetres of snow accumulation. On higher ground, particularly above 300 meters, snowfall could reach between 2 and 5 cm, with certain locations possibly experiencing up to 10 cm.
Northern England and the north Midlands are also under a yellow warning for snow and ice. Snowfall in these areas is predicted to occur at lower elevations, though it is unlikely to settle below 200 meters. At higher altitudes, between 2 to 5 cm of snow may fall, with isolated spots over 300 meters potentially receiving as much as 10 cm.
These conditions are expected to disrupt travel across the Pennines as well as in Derbyshire and Cumbria. The overnight temperatures falling below freezing will contribute to hazardous conditions due to a mix of snow and ice, especially on untreated roads and pavements.
Looking ahead, Saturday will begin with cold and frosty weather across the UK, accompanied by sunshine and relatively dry conditions compared to recent days. However, from Saturday night into Sunday, there is an increased chance of snowfall over a wide area, including at low levels.
