Sean Dyche sacked: Nottingham Forest in talks with Vitor Pereira to take over

Nottingham Forest have initiated discussions with Vitor Pereira, the former Wolves manager, following the dismissal of Sean Dyche after just 114 days at the helm. The decision came in the wake of a goalless draw against bottom-placed Wolves, a result which leaves Forest only three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone with 12 games still to be played. Sources have indicated to BBC Sport that Pereira is a frontrunner for the managerial vacancy, particularly given his previous working relationship with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis during his time at Olympiacos in Greece.

Pereira, aged 57, was acknowledged for his role in securing Wolves’ Premier League status last season after taking over midway through the campaign. However, his tenure ended in November after a poor run saw Wolves earn just two points from their first ten matches. Dyche’s sacking marks Forest’s pursuit of their fourth permanent manager in a single season, following the departures of Ange Postecoglou in October and Nuno Espirito Santo as early as September. An official club statement confirmed Dyche’s exit, expressing gratitude for his efforts and announcing no further comments would be made at this time.

Postecoglou’s spell lasted only 39 days after replacing Nuno, who was dismissed after just three fixtures into the 2025-26 season. Dyche took charge at the City Ground when Forest sat 18th with a challenging start that included just one win from eight games. Despite an initial defeat to Bournemouth, Dyche managed four victories and a draw in his next seven matches to temporarily lift the club out of immediate danger. A subsequent string of four losses was offset by another unbeaten sequence of four games, highlighted by a victory over West Ham and a hard-fought draw against league leaders Arsenal. Nevertheless, improved performances from rivals Leeds United and West Ham have continued to keep Forest embroiled in the relegation fight.

In European competition, Forest emerged from their Europa League group in third place, securing four wins, two draws, and two losses to qualify for the knockout rounds. They are set to face Turkish side Fenerbahce in a two-legged tie later this month. Domestically, Forest have exited both cup competitions, losing narrowly to Swansea in the EFL Cup and being knocked out on penalties by Championship side Wrexham in the FA Cup. Despite a mid-table finish last season and European qualification, the club’s campaign has been rocked by managerial instability and mounting pressure, with owner Marinakis visibly frustrated during recent matches. Dyche, who had a history with Forest as a youth player but never appeared for the first team, had been seen as a stabilizing influence but was unable to deliver consistent results in the Premier League, culminating in his departure
