Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has called for Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to provide testimony before the US Congress regarding his association with Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender. Speaking to reporters, Starmer emphasized that anyone possessing relevant information should be willing to share it, stating, “You can’t be victim-centred if you’re not prepared to do that,” and underscored that the victims of Epstein must remain the top priority.
This statement follows the recent disclosure of files connected to Epstein, which include disturbing photographs that seem to depict Mountbatten-Windsor kneeling over a fully clothed unidentified woman lying on the floor. Attempts by BBC News to obtain a comment from Mountbatten-Windsor, who has consistently denied any misconduct, remain unanswered. Earlier, Democratic members of Congress had invited him to participate in their investigation of Epstein, an invitation the Prime Minister said was for Mountbatten-Windsor to consider personally. There is no context provided for the photos in question, though BBC Verify identified the setting as consistent with the interior of Epstein’s New York City mansion.
Mountbatten-Windsor, previously known as Prince Andrew and the Duke of York, was stripped of his royal titles in October amid mounting scrutiny over his relationship with Epstein. Newly released emails reveal that Epstein invited Mountbatten-Windsor to dinner with a 26-year-old woman in London in August 2010. The Duke’s correspondence indicated he would be in Geneva until the 22nd but was willing to meet her, asking Epstein for any additional relevant information about the woman, who Epstein described as “26, russian, clevere [sic] beautiful, trustworthy.” These exchanges took place two years after Epstein had pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor and served a controversial 13-month sentence that included work release privileges. Mountbatten-Windsor denies any wrongdoing and claims he was unaware of any illicit behavior on Epstein’s part.
Additionally, the latest documents suggest that Epstein provided financial assistance to Sarah Ferguson, Mountbatten-Windsor’s ex-wife and former Duchess of York, over a period of 15 years. Correspondence from 2009 reveals Ferguson discussing business plans with Epstein and thanking him for his support, describing him as “the brother I have always wished for.” In the same year, she requested £20,000 for rent, warning that her landlord threatened exposure in the media. The released files also indicate Epstein’s efforts to have Ferguson publicly defend him against allegations by civil plaintiffs’ lawyers, with Epstein asking his publicist to draft a statement for her to deny the claims and accuse the newspapers of soliciting stories. Ferguson has been contacted for comment
