Driver admits killing teen Marcus Fakana freed from Dubai jail

A tragic incident unfolded in London involving a teenager who had recently been released from a Dubai prison. The young man, Marcus Fakana, died in a car crash after the driver, Marwaan Mohamed Huseen, attempted to evade police officers. The accident occurred in Tottenham, north London, in the early hours of October 3rd last year, when the BMW Huseen was driving collided with a lorry. Alongside Fakana, another passenger sustained serious injuries in the crash.

At Wood Green Crown Court, Huseen appeared via videolink from HMP Pentonville where he admitted to causing Marcus Fakana’s death through dangerous driving. Additionally, he acknowledged driving without insurance or a valid license at the time of the crash. Huseen also pleaded guilty to causing serious harm to the other injured passenger as a result of his reckless conduct behind the wheel.

The incident happened just three months after Fakana had been released from custody in Dubai. While visiting the United Arab Emirates with his family in the summer of 2024, Marcus, then 18, entered into a relationship with a 17-year-old girl from London. This led to his incarceration for approximately one year until he was granted clemency through a royal pardon issued by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.

A sentencing date for Huseen has yet to be scheduled. The case highlights a series of unfortunate events beginning with Marcus Fakana’s imprisonment abroad and ending with his untimely death in a police pursuit-related crash in London
