A 17-year-old boy suffered what police have described as a “potentially life-threatening head injury” during an assault in Londonderry. The incident occurred on Butcher Street, where officers discovered the teen unconscious on the ground following an altercation involving two individuals.
City centre CCTV operators observed the confrontation shortly after 02:25 GMT on Sunday and promptly notified the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). By the time police arrived at the scene, the other male involved had already left.
The injured teenager is currently receiving treatment in hospital. Meanwhile, the PSNI has appealed to anyone who might have witnessed the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
Det Insp Connolly emphasized, “We know that a number of people were in the area at the time and would appeal to anyone who witnessed this shocking incident to come forward.
