Man arrested after street death of woman near Norwich

A woman was found injured in a street near Norwich, leading to a murder investigation and the arrest of a man. Norfolk Police responded to an incident at Catherine Gardens, Thorpe St Andrew, close to Norwich, around 23:45 GMT on Saturday. Tragically, the woman, who was in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the discovery, a man in his 60s was taken into custody on Sunday morning in Dereham Road and remains held by police. Authorities indicated that the man and the woman were believed to know each other.

Police officers continue to investigate at both the scene and another related location. To facilitate this, Yarmouth Road has been closed from the Pound Lane junction up to the junction with School Avenue for several hours. The closure includes roadblocks and police presence in the area to assist with the ongoing inquiries.

Detective Superintendent Stacey Murray shared a statement highlighting that the investigation is still in its early stages as officers work to piece together the events that resulted in the woman’s death. She reiterated the belief that the individuals involved were acquainted and urged anyone with information to come forward and speak to authorities
