Coleraine: Murder investigation launched after death of man

Authorities have initiated a murder inquiry after the death of a 43-year-old man in Coleraine, located in County Londonderry. The deceased has been identified by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) as Wayne Reid.

Emergency services, including police and ambulance teams, responded to a property in Society Court following a report received at 11:30 GMT on Monday. Upon arrival, Wayne Reid was found and pronounced dead at the scene. In connection to the incident, a 33-year-old man has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder and remains under police detention.

Investigations indicate that Mr. Reid may have been involved in an altercation between Thursday, 8 January and Saturday, 10 January in either Society Court or Society Street. Detective Chief Inspector Hazel Miller expressed her sympathies, stating, “My thoughts are firmly with Mr Reid’s family and loved ones, as they try to come to terms with their loss.”

She added that detectives are working swiftly to uncover the specific details that led to Mr. Reid’s death and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist the ongoing inquiry. According to a funeral notice, Wayne Reid had connections to Scotland and was a father to one child
