John McDonald, a 52-year-old involved in a fraudulent roofing scheme, received a prison sentence of 13 years and six months following a tragic incident that led to the death of Suzanne Cherry. The fatal event took place at Aston Wood Golf Club in Staffordshire, where Cherry, a mother of three, was struck by McDonald’s van. She passed away in hospital in April, just one day before her 63rd birthday, after suffering injuries four days prior in the collision.
The court heard that McDonald, along with two accomplices, had been defrauding elderly individuals by providing substandard roofing work while operating under the name Approved Roofs Ltd. On the day of the crash, police had noticed the group and began pursuing them after observing suspicious behavior near an elderly customer.
