Liverpool City Council’s choice to act as the registered provider for two local nursing care homes has quickly shown positive outcomes, including the creation of new job opportunities and an increase in local employment. Following a Cabinet decision made in September 2025, the council affirmed its ongoing dedication to residents at Millvina House in Anfield and Brushwood Nursing Home in Speke by continuing its role as the Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered provider for both facilities.
After considering various options, the council determined that maintaining its position as the provider would deliver the most stable and effective care solution for the residents. Since then, collaborative efforts have been made with health partners and PC24, the nursing care provider at these homes, to enhance service quality and focus on the wellbeing of both residents and staff.
This partnership and approach have already resulted in the creation of over 80 new roles, strengthening the capacity to offer compassionate and high-quality care, while also fostering further improvements. The council’s commitment has successfully established a talented and skilled workforce that forms a solid foundation for Adult Social Care, opening the door to new opportunities moving forward.
Cllr Angela Coleman, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, expressed pride in the smooth transition of management and the dedication shown by staff: “I’m incredibly proud of how well our takeover of management has gone and even more proud of the dedication shown by staff at both homes to continue to drive improvements for the wellbeing of our residents.” She also highlighted the recruitment success: “Recruitment has been hugely positive, with more than 300 applications received, creating a strong talent pool for future opportunities. All posts have now been shortlisted, and interviews have already led to the appointment of seven senior roles.” The council’s ongoing partnership with PC24 continues to enhance services, ensuring Millvina House and Brushwood remain secure and supportive environments for their residents
