Harlow Town Football Club has entered administration, a development that has raised significant concern within the local community and its governing bodies. This announcement follows a court order issued on Friday by a judge in London’s insolvency court, which appointed administrators to oversee the club’s affairs. The application for administration was made by the trustees of the Platinum Sports Management Limited Pension Scheme.
In response to the news, Dan Swords, leader of Harlow Town Council and a Conservative Party member, highlighted the council’s immediate efforts to gather detailed information regarding the matter. Speaking via social media, he stated, “The news that Harlow Town FC has entered administration is deeply concerning.” He added that his priority lies in protecting the sport, including the volunteers and supporters connected to the club, rather than focusing on the company itself.
Harlow Town FC operates as a private limited company, although the club’s playing ground, the Harlow Arena located at Barrows Farm, is owned by the town council. The football team currently competes in the Spartan South Midlands Football League (SSMFL), having joined the league in 2022. They recently played a home game that ended in a 1-1 draw against Arlesley Town. Regarding the administration status, Phil Pateman, chief executive of the SSMFL, confirmed the league was informed on Friday and is now awaiting instructions related to the actions required under the Football Association’s standard rules.
The history of Harlow Town FC dates back to its original formation in 1879, when it was simply known as Harlow.
