Electric scooter battery fire wrecks family home at Dinas Powys

In Dinas Powys, Vale of Glamorgan, a family’s house was gutted within moments by a fire triggered by an electric scooter. The blaze began in the hallway and quickly spread, resulting in the complete destruction of the home and all its contents. Chelsea Ann Buckler, one of the family members, described the devastating loss and the challenge they now face moving forward.

The fire occurred just after midnight on Friday, 9 January, at a property located on Caerphilly Close. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly, dispatching three fire engines to the scene. The fire affected two floors of the house, and officials confirmed that the cause was linked to a lithium-ion battery used in the electric scooter.

Buckler expressed the shock and disbelief the family is experiencing in the aftermath. She wrote on a fundraising platform, “Watching it all disappear is something that still doesn’t feel real,” conveying the emotional impact of witnessing their home destroyed so suddenly.

Despite the overwhelming situation, Buckler expressed gratitude for the support they have received from the community. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love, prayers, and support – it means more than we can ever put into words,” she said. She also shared the heavy burden facing her family, saying, “With my five siblings and two parents, the road ahead feels overwhelming.”
