Rowers film close encounter with whales in Atlantic Ocean

A group of rowers experienced a remarkable encounter with a whale while crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The moment was captured on video as the team reached the halfway point of their challenging 3,000-mile (4,800km) journey known as the World’s Toughest Row.

The crew consisted of Will Towning from Norwich, Greg and Elliot Collins from Buckinghamshire, and Chris Betts from Dorset. During their expedition, they found themselves surrounded by approximately five whales that were surfacing and diving near their boat. The footage includes a close-up of one whale approaching the side of their vessel.

The men admitted to feeling concerned that the boat might be hit by one of the large creatures. Elliot Collins described the event as “the most surreal moment” of his life, highlighting the extraordinary nature of the experience.

This close encounter served as a memorable highlight during their arduous ocean crossing, emphasizing both the challenge and wonder of rowing across such vast waters alongside majestic marine life
