Newton hospital attack suspect detained under Mental Health Act

A 20-year-old man was detained under the Mental Health Act following an attack with a crowbar at Newton Community Hospital in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside Police confirmed. The individual, originally from Afghanistan and residing locally, entered the hospital and assaulted six staff members and patients. The suspect was apprehended at the scene and initially charged on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, affray, and criminal damage.

The six victims suffered injuries such as head lacerations, bruising, and wounds to their hands and arms.
