A tragic fire in a Kent village has claimed the life of one child, with another child hospitalized following the incident. The blaze broke out shortly after midday GMT at a semi-detached house on White Admiral Way in Hamstreet, near Ashford. Kent Fire & Rescue Service (KFRS) responded swiftly, deploying six fire engines to combat the intense flames that had engulfed the entire property.
KFRS confirmed the heartbreaking loss, stating, “Sadly, one child died at the scene.” Ann Millington, the chief executive of KFRS, expressed condolences, saying, “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with everyone affected by this tragic incident, especially the child’s loved ones.” She also acknowledged the impact on the local residents and highlighted the availability of community support at a welfare hub established at Hamstreet Village Hall.
During the operation, officials advised nearby residents and passersby to keep their windows and doors shut to avoid smoke inhalation, though this precaution was later withdrawn. By early evening, the fire service announced it was scaling back its efforts, leaving two engines and a team to continue dampening the affected areas. Additionally, a volunteer response team remained on site to provide welfare and assistance to the crews involved.
