Diogo Jota's sons to join mascots for Liverpool v Wolves at Anfield

On Saturday at Anfield, a poignant moment will be observed as the sons of Diogo Jota, the late forward who played for both Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers, will take part in the pre-match mascot lineup. Dinis and Duarte, two of Jota’s three children, are set to accompany the mascots onto the pitch ahead of the Premier League clash between their father’s former clubs.

Diogo Jota, aged 28, tragically lost his life in a car accident in Spain this past July, alongside his brother Andre Silva, who was 25. The Portuguese winger’s career included a move to Liverpool in 2020, following three successful seasons at Wolves. This Saturday’s game marks the first meeting of the two sides since his passing.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot shared reflective thoughts in the matchday programme ahead of their final home fixture of 2025. Slot expressed hope that the lasting love and respect for Jota might offer his family “some solace” during what will be their first Christmas without him. He acknowledged the surge of emotions over the past year and the difficulty of finding comfort in such tragic circumstances.

During his time at Liverpool, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 matches and played a key role in the team’s victories in the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022, as well as the Premier League title last season. Before joining Liverpool, he had initially joined Wolves on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid in 2017, later making a significant impact with 44 goals in 131 appearances for the club
