Woman from Faversham dies on Christmas Eve after crash on M2

Authorities have confirmed that a woman in her twenties from the Faversham area of Kent tragically lost her life on Christmas Eve following a collision on the M2 motorway. The accident involved a black Volkswagen T-Roc which struck the central reservation barrier before overturning.

The London-bound section of the M2 between junctions five, near Maidstone, and four, close to Gillingham, remains closed to traffic. Emergency services were alerted at 12:50 GMT on Christmas Eve to what was described as a serious crash in the vicinity of the Medway services area.

Kent Police have revealed that the vehicle was occupied solely by the deceased woman, with no other cars involved in the incident. Firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene with three fire engines, and the woman’s family have been notified of the fatality.

Motorists are currently being redirected via a diversion route that uses the A249, M20, and A228 roads. Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam footage to come forward and assist with their investigation
