Philip Young in court charged with drugging and raping ex-wife

Philip Young, a former local councillor, has appeared in court facing serious accusations involving numerous sexual offences committed against his ex-wife over a period spanning 13 years. Now 49 years old, Young is charged with 56 separate offences. These allegations include several counts of rape and the administration of a substance with the intent to stupefy his former spouse, Joanne Young.

Young, who once lived in Swindon but currently resides on Amberley Road in Enfield, confirmed his identity and address during his court appearance at Swindon Magistrates’ Court but chose not to enter a plea. Besides him, five additional men have been charged in connection with offences involving Ms Young, who has decided to waive her right to anonymity in the case.

Among the charges against Philip Young are accusations of voyeurism, possession of indecent images of children, and possession of extreme images. During his court appearance, he was dressed in dark blue jeans and a black zip-up jumper. Having been remanded in custody earlier, Young is scheduled for a next hearing at Swindon Crown Court on 23 January. It’s important to note that Young held the position of Conservative councillor for Covingham and Nythe in Swindon between 2007 and 2010. The alleged offending, however, is stated to have occurred between 2010 and 2023.

In addition to Young, five other men are due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court charged with related offences against Ms Young. These men include Norman Macksoni, 47, of Sharnbrook; Dean Hamilton, 47, who has no fixed address; Conner Sanderson Doyle, 31, from Swindon; Richard Wilkins, 61, also of Swindon; and Mohammed Hassan, 37, from Swindon. Their alleged crimes range from rape and sexual assault to sexual touching and possession of extreme images
