Police arrest 15 after seizing £14m worth of drugs in record week

In the lead-up to Christmas, Police Scotland conducted operations resulting in the confiscation of drugs valued at nearly £14 million, marking what the force called a record-breaking week for drug recoveries nationwide. The largest single seizure took place during a raid on 11 December in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, where over £8 million worth of cocaine was uncovered.

The following day, officers discovered quantities of ecstasy, amphetamine, and mephedrone exceeding a value of £3.5 million in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. In total, 15 individuals were arrested and charged for offenses related to these drug discoveries, according to a spokesperson from the police.

Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Houston commented on the successful efforts, stating, “These significant seizures mark one of our most successful weeks for removing drugs from the streets of Scotland, and they will have a huge impact on the cocaine supply across the country. Policing does not stop just because it’s Christmas time and we remain relentless in our fight against drugs.”

Additional seizures included £1.2 million worth of cocaine found in Dunning, Perth and Kinross, and a further £560,000 of Class A drugs discovered at a business premises in Bridge of Earn. In Moray, law enforcement recovered cocaine and cannabis valued at over £500,000 hidden in the loft of a house located in the Lhanbryde area of Elgin. Meanwhile, officers also stopped a vehicle near Moffat on the M74, retrieving £175,000 worth of cocaine
