Thomas Skinner claims BBC rigged Strictly vote removing him

Thomas Skinner, known for his previous appearance on Strictly Come Dancing, has publicly accused the BBC of manipulating the public vote that resulted in his exit from the show. In a recent social media post, Skinner revealed that on the night he was eliminated, he received an anonymous email claiming to be from a BBC executive, which contained voting statistics indicating he had actually received significantly more votes than publicly reported. The email allegedly suggested that the BBC was both “angry” and “nervous” about Skinner’s meeting with US Vice-President JD Vance.

Following these revelations, reports have emerged that Skinner is pursuing legal action against the BBC, asserting that the outcome was rigged. The BBC has strongly denied these allegations, stating that the public vote on Strictly Come Dancing is “independently overseen and verified to ensure complete accuracy.” A spokesperson emphasized that “any claims to the contrary are entirely without foundation.” Additionally, PromoVeritas, the company responsible for verifying the show’s votes, confirmed that all votes are “validated” and undergo “independent and comprehensive verification by two auditors.”

Despite these denials, Skinner’s claims have drawn attention, especially as he was the first celebrity voted off in this series. Ahead of the show’s final, which will feature returning contestants, Skinner announced that he would not be participating. He shared that he had discussed his decision with his dance partner, Amy Dowden, and wanted to clarify publicly the reasons for his absence, emphasizing that he was “not bitter.” Skinner said he had the authenticity of the suspicious email independently confirmed, though he did not specify how, and requested official vote tallies—which the BBC refused to provide, saying such information had “never been shown in the history of the show.”

Skinner also detailed other factors contributing to his feelings of unfair treatment, mentioning smaller incidents such as his welcome gift being stolen—an occurrence the BBC denies, stating the Strictly team does not provide welcome gifts to cast members. The broadcaster also noted that Skinner has not shared the alleged email with them despite requests, limiting their ability to comment further. Outside Strictly, Skinner first rose to fame on The Apprentice in 2019 and has since appeared on various programs including 8 Out of 10 Cats, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, Good Morning Britain, and Celebrity Masterchef. He is scheduled to feature on Celebrity Apprentice later this year.

Skinner is also well-known for his social media presence, where he posts motivational videos often ending with his signature phrase, “bosh.” However, his recent political engagements, particularly his meeting with Donald Trump’s vice-president and photos of him wearing a Make America Great Again cap, have stirred some controversy. Addressing this, Skinner described himself as “not a political bloke,” stating, “I just love my country and am patriotic.” He also revealed that a private Zoom call with BBC executives about his future was leaked and made into “national news” within hours
