Household support available to tackle cold homes, damp and mould

Liverpool City Council is offering financial assistance this winter to help residents maintain warm and safe homes. A budget of £500,000 has been allocated from the Department for Work and Pensions’ Household Support Fund to address energy-related problems faced by households in the area.

This funding is specifically targeted at homeowners who are struggling to afford necessary heating repairs or replacements and have no access to other financial aid. The scheme assists those dealing with issues such as damp caused by condensation, mould, or failing boilers. Practical interventions include repairing or replacing boilers, providing dehumidifiers to control moisture, fixing damaged downpipes or gutters that contribute to indoor dampness, and installing damp proof courses.

To be eligible for support through this program, applicants must own their property and either receive means-tested benefits or have a household income below £31,000 with savings under £16,000. Additionally, the household must include at least one vulnerable person, such as someone over 65 years old, under the age of 5, or living with certain health conditions like respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses.

The funding is limited and the assistance program will run until March 31, 2026, or until resources are exhausted. Residents interested in applying can reach out to the Healthy Homes Team by calling 0800 012 1754 or emailing healthyhomesprogramme@liverpool.gov.uk for more information and to begin the application process
