Kavan Keenan: GAA footballer admits injuring woman in hit-and-run

Kavan Keenan, a Gaelic footballer from County Antrim, has confessed to causing injury to a woman through careless driving and not stopping at the scene of the incident. The woman, who is in her 30s, was struck by a van on Glenravel Road in Martinstown on 26 October 2024. Originally, Keenan had pleaded not guilty to these charges, and his trial was scheduled to commence in January 2026.

However, during a re-arraignment hearing at Antrim Crown Court on Monday, the 26-year-old, who hails from Millfield in Ballymena, altered his plea and admitted guilt. In addition to the careless driving charge, Keenan also accepted responsibility for driving the van without insurance and failing to report the accident.

A hearing focused on the plea and sentencing has been set for 6 February. Keenan is known for representing the Antrim county team along with the All Saints Gaelic Athletic Club. His sporting achievements include being named last year in the All-Ireland Tailteann Cup Team of the Year.
