A man has been convicted for the murder of his former girlfriend’s sister and her three children, who died in a house fire in Bradford. Sharaz Ali was responsible for setting the fire deliberately as an act of revenge after Antonia Gawith, the sister of the victim, ended her relationship with him. The victims included Bryonie Gawith, aged 29, as well as her children Denisty, Oscar, aged nine and five respectively, and 22-month-old Aubree Birtle.
The 40-year-old Sharaz Ali was also found guilty of attempting to murder Antonia Gawith, who survived the attack. The case was heard at Doncaster Crown Court, where the prosecution detailed the sequence of events leading to the fatal blaze. Ali’s actions were described as a calculated attempt to cause harm following the breakup of the relationship.
Another individual involved in the incident, 26-year-old Calum Sunderland, was acquitted of murder charges. However, Sunderland was convicted on four counts of manslaughter because of his involvement in breaking into the family home where Antonia had been staying. His role was linked to the tragic fire and its devastating consequences.
This case highlights the severity of revenge attacks and the tragic loss of life resulting from domestic disputes escalating into violence. The convictions draw attention to the legal consequences faced by those responsible for such acts, providing some measure of justice for the victims and their families
