The almond-flavored liqueur Disaronno is currently subject to a product recall amid concerns that some bottles might contain fragments of glass. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) announced the recall on Tuesday, specifically targeting 700ml bottles of Disaronno Originale available in both England and Scotland.
According to the recall notice posted on the FSA’s website, the parent company Illva Saronno has initiated this action due to the risk of small glass pieces present in some bottles, which poses a safety hazard to consumers. Seven specific production batches have been identified as potentially affected by this issue.
In response, retailers where these bottles were sold will display recall notices to inform customers on the appropriate steps to take. The contamination appears to have stemmed from an irregularity during the bottling process. Consumers are advised to check for particular batch codes printed on the back of each bottle, which include 25374, 25375, 25381, 25382, 25435, 25442, and 25444.
This recall closely follows a similar announcement made in the Republic of Ireland on Monday, involving the identical product and hazard. Product recalls of various kinds are frequent and can arise for multiple reasons.
