Jess Glynne’s 2015 track *Hold My Hand* has been named TikTok’s UK song of the year, largely due to its association with the popular ‘nothing beats a Jet2holiday’ trend on the platform. While the song has long been linked with adverts for the holiday company, it found renewed popularity when TikTok users started using it to humorously highlight holiday mishaps, travel chaos, and other relatable fails. This resurgence has made the song a central soundtrack for around 6.6 million videos according to TikTok, following its earlier accolade as the platform’s UK and global song of the summer.
Reflecting on this achievement, the 36-year-old Londoner told BBC Newsbeat that she feels “blessed” by the renewed recognition of the song, which marked an important milestone in her solo career a decade ago. “It’s the most amazing feeling knowing that 10 years later a song that means so much to me, and was such an important part of my journey into music and earning my stripes as a solo artist – to 10 years later to be able to celebrate again and again throughout this year – has been insane,” she said. Glynne described how the trend has breathed new energy into the track and that performing it brings her “joy.” She also shared a humorous personal moment when she flew on a Jet2 holiday to Corfu and heard her own song playing over the airplane’s audio system, sitting nervously next to her mother.
Despite being at the center of a viral meme this year, Jess Glynne’s own TikTok interests differ somewhat; she enjoys cooking clips, funny cat videos, and fails caught on camera. When it comes to the Jet2 trend, her favorite videos are those where parents encourage their children to say the famous line “nothing beats a Jet2 holiday.” One particular clip that amused her showed a man discovering his hotel room window was absurdly small, resembling a prison cell. “That really tickled me,” she said, highlighting the variety and creativity within the trend.
The success of *Hold My Hand* highlights social media’s powerful role in connecting artists with new audiences. Jess sees platforms like TikTok as “an amazing way to engage with people,” appreciating how the song has introduced her music to a younger generation. Jess first gained widespread attention in 2014 through features on Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be” and Route 94’s “My Love,” both UK number ones. Her debut album *I Cry When I Laugh* topped the charts in 2015, followed by *Always In Between* in 2018, with her self-titled third album peaking at number six last year. Although *Hold My Hand* did not re-enter the UK charts this year, it was viewed over 80 billion times on TikTok and ranked second in the platform’s 2025 global song chart. Several other older hits have also enjoyed renewed interest on TikTok, but the global song of the year went to Connie Francis’s *Pretty Little Baby*, released in 1962, which was featured in more than 28 million videos, often highlighting wholesome themes
