Authorities have taken four individuals into custody in connection with a probe into extreme right-wing terrorism, according to officials. The arrests were made in East Sussex during an operation led by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE), which included searches at multiple properties.
On Thursday, law enforcement officers detained a 27-year-old woman from Hailsham and three men aged 33, 36, and 41 from Eastbourne. These actions were described as part of an intelligence-led investigation aimed at addressing potential threats. Suspected terrorism-related offenses are being treated with the utmost seriousness by the unit.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Rayland of Sussex Police acknowledged that such inquiries might raise concerns among the local population. However, he emphasized that these arrests are components of a deliberate strategy intended to ensure community safety. He also noted that residents might observe a heightened police presence during the ongoing search activities, which is a standard protocol for investigations of this nature.
The four detainees remain in custody under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000. According to the Home Office, this legislation permits arrests without a warrant when terrorism-related suspicion arises, and suspects can be held for up to 14 days. The CTPSE is heading the inquiry with support from Sussex Police and encourages anyone with relevant information or concerns to come forward and speak with officers
