PHW investigation after Blaenhonddan Primary School infections

Public Health Wales has initiated an inquiry following multiple cases of illness reported among children at Blaenhonddan Primary School in Bryncoch, Neath. James Adamson, representing Public Health Wales, advised families to remain vigilant for symptoms such as coughing, sore throat, fever, or difficulty breathing.

Mr. Adamson confirmed that authorities are aware of multiple linked cases and are working closely with local health and council officials, as well as the school administration, to handle the situation effectively. He also noted that the ongoing flu season in Wales contributes to a higher incidence of respiratory infections among children at this time of year.

Emphasizing preventive measures, Mr. Adamson encouraged annual flu vaccinations as the most effective way to protect both children and adults. He also noted that the level of school absences corresponds with the background prevalence of respiratory illnesses throughout Wales
