Two men lost their lives following a collision involving a bus on Friday evening in County Fermanagh. The accident occurred on Derrylin Road near Enniskillen around 19:00 GMT. Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene where a Bus Éireann coach and a Ford Kuga car had collided. Tragically, the two men inside the car were pronounced dead at the location.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries have been reported among the Bus Éireann passengers or driver, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) deployed two rapid response paramedics, two emergency crews, and an ambulance officer to attend the incident. Derrylin Road remained closed overnight for investigations and safety checks but was reopened to traffic the following morning.
Bus Éireann released a statement verifying that one of their Expressway Route 30 coaches was involved in the crash. This route runs between Dublin and Donegal. The company emphasized that both their staff and emergency personnel responded to the incident swiftly. They also reiterated their commitment to passenger and public safety, stating they would provide any necessary assistance to relevant authorities.
Local officials expressed deep sorrow over the crash. SDLP councillor Adam Gannon described the event as a “terrible tragedy” and shared condolences with the victims’ families, noting that the road, a key route to Dublin, is “not in great condition” and long overdue for upgrades. Sinn Féin assembly member Jemma Dolan spoke of her “shock and sadness,” offering sympathy to those impacted and highlighting recent tragic incidents on the roads. Meanwhile, Ulster Unionist MLA Diana Armstrong extended her “sincere sympathy” and highlighted the heavy traffic and intersecting rural roads in the area. Democratic Unionist Party MLA Deborah Erskine called the news “incredibly sad” and urged people to remember the grieving families in their prayers.
