Authorities have arrested a second individual in connection with a shooting incident that left a 16-year-old boy critically injured in the city centre. The victim was discovered wounded on London Road, Sheffield, around 17:15 GMT on Monday and was immediately transported to hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.
South Yorkshire Police reported that on Tuesday morning, a 15-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. Later that evening, a 16-year-old boy was also taken into custody. Both suspects continue to be held by the authorities.
The shooting took place at the intersection of London Road and Ward Place. Following the incident, part of London Road was closed between Sitwell Place and the Crowther Place turn-off but was reopened on Tuesday afternoon. Police have announced plans to increase patrols in the vicinity over the next few days to enhance security.
Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight, leading the investigation, emphasized the seriousness of the crime and appealed to the community for assistance. She stated, “There is no place for gun crime in South Yorkshire, and I am calling on the public to help us get justice for this boy and his family.” She further urged anyone with relevant information who has not yet come forward to contact the police to support the ongoing inquiry
