Ormeau Embankment: Attack on house treated as hate crime

Authorities are investigating an assault on a residence in south Belfast, which is being treated as a racially motivated hate crime. The incident involved vandalism to a house located on Ormeau Embankment, where several windows were smashed, and racist graffiti was painted on the walls.

The damage is believed to have occurred sometime between Monday lunchtime and 09:20 GMT on Tuesday. This act of aggression has raised concerns within the local community. Deirdre Hargey, a Sinn Féin assembly member representing South Belfast, condemned the attack, calling it “disgusting.”

She emphasized the value of diversity in the community, stating, “Our community is proudly diverse and people who come here to make it their home deserve to be welcomed, not targeted.” Police have launched an appeal, asking anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist with their inquiries
