A 30-year-old man named Sujanth Ketheeswararasa has been taken into custody in Liverpool city centre in connection with an alleged rape that took place in France. The arrest was carried out by extradition officers from the National Crime Agency on Wednesday. Ketheeswararasa, who holds Sri Lankan nationality, was wanted by French law enforcement authorities.

Following his arrest, Ketheeswararasa appeared at a court hearing in London on Thursday. During the hearing, he was remanded in custody as the process for his extradition to France began. He is scheduled to appear via video link at Westminster Magistrates’ Court later the same day.

Authorities have set a full extradition hearing for the 26th of March to determine the next steps in the case. The National Crime Agency continues to assist with the coordination between British and French legal systems to ensure the matter is handled properly.
