Murder arrest after man stabbed at Norwich student accommodation

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder following a fatal stabbing at a student and professional accommodation building in Norwich. The incident took place at Somerleyton House on Somerleyton Street in the early hours, with emergency services responding around 05:20 GMT after receiving reports of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from stab wounds who was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. Norfolk Police confirmed that a suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue. In addition, several residents of the building have been temporarily relocated while officers carry out their inquiries.

Somerleyton House, which provides 59 bedrooms arranged across multiple flats, has been the focus of a police presence, including forensic teams working inside the premises. Outside the building, police vehicles and forensic vans were stationed as part of the ongoing investigation. The accommodation operator has been approached for comment.

Superintendent Sonia Humphreys acknowledged the impact of the incident on the local community, stating, “We know this is upsetting and may cause concern in the community.” She added, “You will see officers at the scene working to establish the exact circumstances over the next few days.
