David Carrick, a former officer of the Metropolitan Police, has been found guilty of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl as well as a former partner. Carrick is already serving a minimum of 32 years in prison after admitting to 71 sexual offences committed over a span of 17 years. During the trial, evidence was presented showing that he abused the young girl for roughly 18 months until she told her mother. The jury took five hours of deliberation before reaching a unanimous verdict.
At the sentencing hearing, Carrick appeared in court wearing a suit and tie, accompanied by four prison officers. Hertfordshire Police praised the courage shown by the victims throughout the process and called on any others affected to come forward
