Every neighbourhood in Liverpool to have its own Family Hub

Liverpool City Council has announced plans to significantly increase the number of Family Hubs across the city, aiming to provide one hub in every neighbourhood. Currently, there are five Family Hubs in operation, but this figure is set to rise to twelve. This expansion is intended to make support more accessible to families throughout the city.

Family Hubs build upon the strengths of Liverpool’s established Children’s Centres and serve as community spaces where families with children and young people aged 0-19—or up to 25 for those with special educational needs or disabilities—can receive coordinated support, advice, information, and participate in various activities. These hubs are designed to be welcoming environments that foster wellbeing, education, and health among families.

The next Family Hub will open at the location now known as Kensington Children’s Centre. To celebrate this launch, a community event is scheduled for Wednesday, 19 November, from 10am to 12pm. Attendees can enjoy a range of activities such as Jumping Jacks, Rhythm and Rhyme, and SENsory stay and play (SWAN). In addition, families can access support and advice from various partners during the event. Food and refreshments will be available, and no prior booking is necessary as families are welcome to drop in.

Additional Family Hubs will begin opening in the coming weeks and months, with further details to be provided by the council. Cllr Joanne Kennedy, Cabinet Member for Employment, Educational Attainment & Skills at Liverpool City Council, emphasized the council’s goal of ensuring every neighbourhood has access to a Family Hub. She encouraged families to visit the event at Kensington Children’s Centre to learn more about the services, saying, “Please come and visit us for a morning of fun on the 19 November at the Kensington Children’s Centre to find out more about the services available at the Family Hub. I look forward to seeing everyone there and kickstarting this latest rollout of Family Hubs in Liverpool.”
