A murder inquiry is underway following the death of a 17-year-old girl and the serious injury of a woman in Cefn Fforest, near Blackwood, Caerphilly. Gwent Police confirmed that an 18-year-old man from Newbridge has been apprehended on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in relation to the incident, which occurred at approximately 07:15 GMT. Sadly, the teenage girl was declared dead at the scene, while a 38-year-old woman from the local area is currently hospitalized with serious injuries.
Armed officers responded to reports of two individuals suffering serious harm at a property on Wheatley Place on Thursday morning. Detective Superintendent Philip O’Connell stated that, following the arrest, police are not searching for any additional suspects. He acknowledged that the increased police presence in the area might cause concern among residents but stressed that the ongoing investigation requires thorough inquiries. He also urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward and assist the police.
The Welsh Ambulance Service dispatched ambulances to the location at 07:23 and additionally deployed two air ambulance helicopters to support the emergency response. Meanwhile, police crime scene investigators in white suits have been seen entering and leaving the semi-detached house under scrutiny, carrying equipment for their examination. A police dog has been assisting in searches around the property, which remains cordoned off with a large police tape perimeter. The usually quiet street has seen little activity, aside from a handful of residents near the scene.
Local eyewitness Alun Phillips, aged 77, recounted waking up to the noise of banging doors early that morning. He mentioned that he was not familiar with the occupants of the house, describing them as private individuals who generally kept to themselves.
