A tragic incident occurred at the Galeon Playa apartments in Lanzarote, resulting in the death of a British man. The man, identified as Darren Silcox from Pontnewydd, Cwmbran, was on holiday with his family at the Costa Teguise resort when the fatal accident occurred. According to reports from the coroner’s court, Mr. Silcox fell from a height after a bannister collapsed in the early hours of October 25.
Emergency services, including Spanish civil guard and paramedics, responded to the scene, but Mr. Silcox was pronounced dead at 03:30 BST. The inquest into his death revealed that he fell into an atrium stairwell following the collapse of a wooden bannister. Gwent Coroner’s Court has opened an inquest into Mr. Silcox’s death, citing injuries from the fall as the cause.
