Stand-off over £800,000 Your Party membership fees

A disagreement has emerged within Jeremy Corbyn’s new left-wing party regarding £800,000 raised by Zarah Sultana, a key figure in the party’s founding. Sultana initiated an unauthorized membership scheme for individuals interested in joining the group, currently operating under the name Your Party, leading to the collection of the substantial amount of funds.

Despite publicly agreeing to transfer the raised money, Sultana has been accused by senior figures of withholding the funds, triggering frustration among Your Party insiders. The delay in transferring the funds has raised concerns as the money is crucial for the upcoming founding conference of the party scheduled for later this month.

The roots of the conflict lie in a division within the party caused by Sultana’s launch of a membership portal that collected payment and data from an estimated 20,000 individuals through the official email account. The funds were held by MoU, a company established in April to manage donations for the emerging movement.

Amidst the disagreement, Corbyn denounced the unauthorized emails and called for supporters to cancel direct debits. Despite the heated exchange of legal threats and allegations of a “sexist boys’ club,” Sultana and Corbyn have since reconciled, paving the way for the planned transfer of funds and data from MoU to Your Party after its registration with the Electoral Commission
