Man drove at Huntingdon train stabbings attack suspect

A man in Cambridgeshire took matters into his own hands by using his car to stop a suspected attacker who had allegedly stabbed 10 people on a train. Dave Scott, 57, recounted how he was waiting at Huntingdon railway station to pick up his daughter when a knife-wielding man approached his car. Feeling the instinctual response of “fight or flight,” Scott accelerated away, taking the attacker with him. Following the incident, British Transport Police swiftly arrested the man, identified as Anthony Williams, 32, who has since been charged with attempting to murder passengers aboard a train.

The attack occurred on the Doncaster to London King’s Cross LNER service shortly after departing from Peterborough, prompting an unexpected stop at Huntingdon where Scott was waiting in the station’s car park. Initially mistaking the commotion for teenagers causing trouble, Scott soon realized the severity of the situation as more people frantically fled the scene. He described seeing a large man marching towards him, with a knife in hand, causing him to swiftly drive off and circle back to potentially ram the attacker until police arrived.

In the heat of the moment, Scott’s adrenaline was high, and he felt immense relief upon confirming his daughter was not on the targeted train. The heroic actions of rail worker Samir Zitouni, who remains critically ill in the hospital after reportedly shielding a girl from harm, have been praised by rail operator LNER. Meanwhile, Anthony Williams appeared before Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he was remanded until a future court date in December. In addition to the incident in Cambridgeshire, Williams also faces charges related to a separate knife attack earlier that day on a train in east London.

Cambridgeshire Police are investigating three other knife-related incidents possibly linked to Williams, including an alleged assault on a 14-year-old boy. The community remains on edge as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the attacks and ensure the safety of the public. The quick thinking and bravery displayed by individuals like Dave Scott and Samir Zitouni highlight the importance of vigilance and swift action in the face of danger
