Embarking on his maiden trip to Brazil, Prince William arrived with dual environmental missions. Firstly, he is set to unveil the annual Earthshot Prize, a charitable award he established. Subsequently, he will journey to Belem in the Amazon rainforest to participate in COP30, the annual UN climate forum where nations convene to discuss climate change mitigation.
This marks Prince William’s inaugural participation in a COP summit overseas, a departure from the tradition of his father, King Charles, who had previously delivered significant addresses at world summits. Accompanied by his father, William attended the 2021 Glasgow summit two weeks after launching the inaugural Earthshot Prize, an initiative that awards £1 million annually across five categories to projects aiming to restore the environment.
Remaining engaged with the Earthshot Prize, Prince William recently revealed this year’s shortlist of nominees, emphasizing the importance of optimism and courage in addressing environmental challenges.
