Sandwell pair arrested over rape of Sikh woman in Oldbury

Following the brutal attack on a Sikh woman in her 20s in Oldbury, West Midlands, a man and a woman have been arrested in connection with the incident, which police believe to be racially motivated. The suspects, aged 49 and 65, were initially apprehended for a separate rape case in Halesowen that was not deemed racially aggravated.

West Midlands Police responded to a call reporting an attack on a woman in her 30s in Hurst Green Park at around 19:00 BST. The pair was taken into custody in relation to this incident, after which they were also arrested for the assault on the Sikh woman in Oldbury. Both individuals are residents of Sandwell, according to authorities. The Sikh Federation UK expressed relief at the arrests but raised concerns about the length of time taken to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the “disgusting attacks.”

In the aftermath of the attack, the Sikh community came together to demonstrate their solidarity with the victim and engage in conversations about violence against women. Birmingham Edgbaston MP Preet Gill highlighted the rise in hate crimes, while Crimestoppers offered a £20,000 reward for information leading to a conviction.
