A trial date has been scheduled for two individuals charged with the murder of Ian Watkins, a convicted paedophile singer who was serving a 29-year sentence in prison. The incident took place at HMP Wakefield, a high-security facility, where Watkins was fatally injured on Saturday morning. Rico Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, were supposed to appear at Leeds Crown Court, but Gedel refused to leave his cell while Dodsworth appeared via video link from the prison. The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Guy Kearl KC, set a provisional trial date for May 5, 2026, during a brief court hearing.
