Baby and toddlers seriously injured after pram hit by trailer in Dumfries

In Dumfries, a tragic incident occurred involving an eight-month-old baby and two toddlers, aged 14 months and 18 months. The children were seriously injured after their pram was hit by a trailer that detached from a Mitsubishi Outlander on Pleasance Avenue at around 15:15 on Monday. An 18-year-old woman who was pushing the pram suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital, but has since been discharged. A witness at the scene described it as “the most distressing and horrific thing I have ever seen in my life.”

The children were initially taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary before being transferred to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Glasgow, where they remain in serious condition. Police Scotland promptly closed the road for an investigation and is seeking information from the public. Sgt David Kerr from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward with any relevant details.

Michael Ashurst, a 42-year-old passing through Dumfries at the time of the crash, pulled over to help at the scene. He recounted the harrowing experience of freeing the children trapped by the trailer before assisting the childminder who was understandably shaken by the events. Another resident, John Gibson, who lives on Pleasance Avenue, called the incident a “tragic accident” and emphasized the need for measures to slow down traffic in the area to prevent such accidents from happening again
