The conversation around dog control in the UK is far from resolved.

And as she looks back at her career as a plastic surgeon, Prof Lees can see how her life changed direction.

“It’s made me make my speciality of complex wound reconstruction,” she said, reflecting on how it all started.

“My training was dictated by my experience working in the Brown Dog Riots. Those experiences were really isolating; I wasn’t allowed to talk about them for many years.
