Euromillions: UK ticket-holder wins £26m jackpot

The National Lottery in the UK announced that a lucky individual has scooped up the £26 million EuroMillions jackpot. The winning numbers for the draw on Friday night were revealed to be 06, 12, 18, 25, 41, with the Lucky Star numbers being 02 and 06. Senior winners’ adviser at Allwyn, which operates the National Lottery, Andy Carter, urged players to check their tickets and reach out if they believe they are the fortunate winner.

This win marks the third jackpot claimed in the UK out of the total ten held this year. The first victory came in January, with one person securing £83 million, followed by another huge win of £65 million on Valentine’s Day. While the January jackpot winner decided to remain anonymous, they claimed their prize 13 days after the winning numbers were disclosed. Despite the substantial £26 million prize from Friday’s draw, it falls short of placing the ticket-holder among the top Euromillions jackpot winners. To make it into the top 10 list of jackpot prizes, a win exceeding £183 million would have been necessary.

The largest prize ever won by a UK player amounted to £195 million in 2022, as reported by EuroMillions. In contrast, a family from Cork, Ireland, managed to snag a whopping €250 million (£216 million) jackpot in July. Following their win, the family affirmed their plans to stay grounded and continue residing in Ireland. They expressed intentions to maintain their lifestyle, with one winner emphasizing their continued love for a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch every day.

Aside from generating exciting jackpots, the National Lottery also contributes to charitable causes. Since its establishment in the 1990s, the National Lottery has donated over £50 billion towards various charitable endeavors, encompassing health, education, environment, sports, arts, heritage, and other charitable causes. The draw is conducted twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, and tickets are available for purchase in nine European countries
