New event aims to help young people with SEND take next steps to adulthood

A new initiative has been unveiled to provide support for young individuals with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) as they transition into adulthood. The event, known as Ready, Set, Thrive: Adulthood Awaits, is set to assemble young people, families, professionals, and services in one place to offer expert advice, resources, and insights from various industry leaders.

Taking place at the Atrium, Learning Exchange on Roscoe Street on Wednesday 22 October, from 4-7pm, this event is spearheaded by Liverpool City Council. It targets secondary school students with SEND, particularly those in Year 9 and above, who may be uncertain about their future steps or where to seek guidance and support. Professionals and agencies supporting children with SEND are also encouraged to attend.

Covering topics ranging from education and employment to independent travel training and supported employment providers, this event intends to equip young people and parents with the necessary information for a smoother journey. Specialized presentations will be delivered from 5-6pm by key providers on crucial aspects such as how to choose options and post-16 opportunities.

People interested in attending the event can simply show up on the day as refreshments will be provided. However, individuals can also indicate their interest in attending by completing an online form with details of any specific requirements they may have. Furthermore, a creche, staffed by college learners and qualified teachers, will be accessible and can be booked online before the event. The venue has limited car parking, with nearby options at Parr Street and Mount Pleasant, while the closest train station is Liverpool Central Station.
