A Liverpool-based Senior Social Worker has been recognized for her exceptional work with children and families as she is shortlisted for a prestigious National Lifetime Achievement Award. Maria Moore, a Senior Social Worker and Practice Educator with Liverpool City Council, has been named a finalist in the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2025. Moore has been acknowledged for her remarkable practice and dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of children and families, while also inspiring and mentoring the upcoming generation of social workers in Liverpool.
The finalists for the award were chosen by a panel of independent judges, including previous award winners, social workers, sector leaders, and individuals with lived experience of social work. The winners will be announced at a special event in October at The Midland Hotel in Manchester. The Social Worker of the Year Awards, now in its 19th year, is the premier national awards ceremony for social work in England, acknowledging outstanding achievements within the profession and aiming to enhance public understanding of the demanding yet rewarding work social workers undertake on a daily basis.
Described as a “role model” by one of her colleagues, Moore is praised for her nurturing and kind nature towards others and her exemplary social work practice. Colleague’s express gratitude for having Moore as a mentor on their team and believe she is a deserving candidate for the award. Cllr Liz Parsons, Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Services with Liverpool City Council, commends Moore’s dedication, compassion, and professionalism in supporting children, young people, and families in Liverpool throughout her career, stating the lasting impact she has made in the community is a significant contribution that they are immensely proud of.
