“I’m very lucky to have parents who are more than willing to let me move back in for the year rent-free,” she says.
“Otherwise, I don’t think I would have been able to afford to go to uni this year.”

While Faith acknowledges her situation is fortunate, she can’t help but wonder what her uni experience would have been like if she hadn’t had to move back home.
“I know that I’ll miss out on the uni experience this year. I wish I had a deeper student experience than just going to lectures and leaving,” she says.
“It just makes me feel a bit bitter, really.”
To make the commute work, Faith plans to bring food with her to university and get one of the library’s free showers when she arrives, since she’ll be waking up so early for the journey.
“I’m going to have to make a lot of sacrifices to make this work,” she says. “I’m going to have to navigate that as I go along.”

But for Faith, the long days and early starts are worth it – because higher education is important to her.
“It’s a big part of improvement,” she says, “I’m here to learn and to grow.”
Looking to the future, Faith says she thinks the situation “is going to impact my future career choices”.
“When I graduate, I’m going to be way more careful about where I apply [for jobs] because I need to know that I can afford to live wherever it is I need to go,” she says.
